guillaume cottin | cinematographer

I am a director of photography, lighting cameraman and gaffer based in Toronto, Canada.

Born in Poland and raised in France, I studied applied arts and film at the ESAV in France and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Over the last six years, I lived between Paris, Montreal, New York and Toronto, and worked on independent feature films, documentaries, news, TV and commercials in many departments: camera, grip, electrical and in post-prduction as a colorist. I worked with post-production companies such as Technicolor, Bling Digital, Pixel Underground, and rental houses like OffHollywood, AbelCine and Dazmo Camera. This diverse experience gives me a deep understanding of the techniques, equipment and workflow on set and in post.

My work as a cinematographer earned me a Fulbright grant and a scholarship at the American Film Institute Conservatory, and was shown in film festivals worldwide:TIFF, SxSW, Female Eye Film Festival, PIFFF in Paris, Lady Filmmakers Film Festival.

On film or digital, I put the emphasis on visual storytelling and like to express the character's emotions through movement, shadow and light. I tend to work as simply as possible, to capture the actors’ emotions and materialize the director's vision through the camera.
